14 Durable Vehicles Known To Last Over 200k Miles

By Finn Jansen

Vehicle tech is improving at a rapid rate. Cars are better, more powerful, and safer than ever before. Of course, as tech improves, the cost to produce that vehicle goes up too. Cars are now more expensive than ever, which means people are trying to keep their hands on their vehicles for as long as possible too. Nowadays, most people can expect to be using the same vehicle for a good decade or so. This means that if you’re buying a vehicle, you want one that lasts for as long as possible.

We’ve put together this list of 14 durable vehicles known to last over 200K miles. These vehicles are often well-constructed, and barely require much in the way of repairs. That’s not to say you won’t need a repair or two eventually, but they’ll often be on the smaller side of things. Nothing that will break the bank.

According to Auto Week, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the most reliable vehicle in the world, with over 16% of vehicles managing to hit 200,000 miles. Not a surprise, really. This is a vehicle that has been around in some form for over 50 years, and Toyota has barely had a slip-up with it, with each iteration being considerably better than the past. While it is too early to tell whether the newest Toyota Land Cruiser will hit 200,000 miles, the past reputation of the model

The Toyota Camry is something very special. It is not only affordable, but it is often rated highly on consumer reports into the most reliable vehicles. Not surprising, really. You’ll find that Toyota vehicles will dominate this list. The latest model boasts a four-cylinder engine, which helps to power Toyota’s acclaimed hybrid system. This is a model which has been constantly improved since the first launch in 1982, and there are still many versions of the original on the roads.

Toyota Sequoia

The Toyota Sequoia is one of the rare full-size SUVs that buck the reliability trend. A lot of the larger SUVs struggle to hit 200,000 miles, simply due to the bulk they’re carrying around. No issues with the Toyota Sequoia here. Treated well, over 10% of them hit the 200k mark without any issues. So, it’s not too bad for a larger vehicle like this. With eight seasons, it’ll last your family for years.

Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey was recently featured in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, where it was touted as being one of the worst cars in the world. Yet, despite being put through its paces in the movie, the vehicle came out on the other side. Sure, that’s a piece of fiction, but we feel that the movie really encapsulates what you’ll get from the Honda Odyssey.

Sure, it is not the sexiest vehicle in the world. It isn’t loaded with features either. But, you know what? It’s built to last. Around 3% make the 200,000 mile mark. But, bear in mind that this is based off the latest models. Many of them might not have been on the road long enough to hit this stat. We wouldn’t be surprised if a lot more Honda Odysseys hit the 200k mark.

Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima isn’t really the most popular vehicle in the Nissan range, but it has managed to establish itself as a solid workhorse. It is a sturdy sedan. Still, it has been around since 1980 in some form, with the latest model appearing in 2023. Every model has received nothing but praise. Unfortunately, if you’re in the US or Canada, there won’t be any more Nissan Maximas released. The final model year was 2023. However, the older models will still be good for a while yet.

Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback is one of our favorite vehicles. While we’re sure most people will be taking their Subaru Outback on the road only, this is a vehicle that has seemed  pretty solid in off-road conditions too. Even if you take this through heavy mud or snow, it thrives. Components rarely break down, and there has barely been a complaint from drivers about the Subaru Outback. Not to mention the fact that the vehicle manages to hold its value immensely well.

Toyota Prius

Electric vehicles don’t always have the best reputation when it comes to reliability, we suppose because it is a newer form of tech. However, the hybrid Toyota Prius is beating all of its peers. It is one of the most efficient hybrids on the market, helping consumers save a huge amount on fuel costs.

Toyota have also designed the Prius to be easy to repair, so any small issues can be rectified quickly before they become too big.

Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester has been kicking around in some form for a few years, and it is favored by those looking for a dependable, smaller SUV. The Subaru Forester is not only a long-lasting vehicle, but it is one that is incredibly safe to drive. In fact, it receives higher safety ratings than most competing SUVs. It doesn’t matter where you take this vehicle either. As an all-wheel drive, it is just as happy on paved surfaces as it is off-road.

Lexus RX

During our research for this list, we looked heavily into car reviews. One car that received a huge amount of praise was the Lexus RX. It is one of the most reliable, and luxurious, SUVs on the market right now. It’s nowhere near the cheapest vehicle on this list, but if you’re ever close to one, you’ll see why. This beast is rugged.

Its ruggedness means that the Lexus RX holds its value incredibly well too. Sell this on in a few years down the line, and you should make a healthy chunk of your cash back.

Chevrolet Impala

American vehicles don’t really have a reputation for being reliable. In the car enthusiast business, if you want a reliable car, you buy foreign. The Chevrolet Impala bucks this trend. This beautiful sedan, when treated right, should have no issues cruising past the 200,000 mile mark. Unfortunately, Chevrolet have paused the manufacture of this for a while, with the latest model year being 2020. Still, those vehicles are still going strong. If you can grab yourself a 2020 model, and it shouldn’t be too expensive, you know that you’ve got a fantastic car that’ll serve you well for years.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 is another of those American-made vehicles that performs well. Although, as a truck, it may not be for everybody. This is a vehicle built for daily use on worksites, a dash of off-roading, and more. Basically, the Ford F-150 is a car designed to be put through its paces. Therefore, it is remarkable that over 2% of them hit the 200,000 mile mark with barely an issue. Probably not the best vehicle for a family, though.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord must have had some superb engineers behind it. Normally, the most reliable vehicles are on the bulkier side. Good, but perhaps not for everybody. The Honda Accord is a smaller sedan, and it thrives. Offering great fuel efficiency, easy-to-replace parts, and tremendous reliability, the Honda Accord has proven repeatedly that it has what it takes to hit the 200k mark.

GMC Yukon

Over 3% of GMC Yukons have managed to hit the 200,000 mark. We reckon a lot more are on their way to that milestone too. There’s a lot of power behind this baby, with the V8 engine offering a whopping 420hp. It needs it too. This vehicle is bulky. It has a huge amount of space inside too. If you’ve got a growing family, pick this vehicle up as it’ll probably last you a decade, minimum.

Toyota Highlander Hybrid

While it is one of the original Toyota hybrids, it is clear from the outset that it was designed well. Coming at an affordable price whether purchased new or used, the Toyota Highlander is capable of handling whatever people throw at it. Pick up the all-wheel drive version of this beast, and you’ll have a vehicle that can handle off-roading with barely a squeal.

Get the two-wheel drive, and you’ll have a vehicle that lasts you for years on city and highway driving. The fuel economy isn’t too bad considering the latest version came out in 2019 too.
