What We Did in 48 Hours in Vegas as a Family

By Finn Jansen

Las Vegas—where the neon lights never stop shining, and the excitement is around every corner. Our family recently decided to dive headfirst into the energy of Sin City for a quick two-day trip, and what a whirlwind it was!

Now, Las Vegas is quite the departure from the wide-open roads and desert landscapes I usually love, but there’s something about the glitz and glamour of this place that draws you in.

It’s a town that feels like it’s alive 24/7, and from the moment we arrived, we could sense that electric buzz in the air. We were ready for a good time—and Vegas didn’t disappoint.

We only had two days, so we made sure to make every minute count. After checking into our hotel, we wasted no time hitting the Strip. I’ve seen it in movies and heard stories, but nothing compares to walking down Las Vegas Boulevard in person.

The lights, the people, the sheer energy—it was overwhelming in the best way possible. The family and I had a blast hopping between the top hotels.

From the classic elegance of the Bellagio to the grandeur of Caesars Palace and the modern charm of the Cosmopolitan, each one had its own unique vibe. We even wandered through the Venetian, and I have to admit, the indoor canals and gondolas had me feeling like we’d stepped into another world.

One of the highlights of our trip was catching the iconic Bellagio fountains. Watching the water dance to music under the lights of the city was absolutely magical. We may have spent a good chunk of time just soaking that in—because in Vegas, sometimes you need a little break from the noise to enjoy the beauty.

Now, no trip to Vegas is complete without trying your luck, right? Well, let’s just say that Lady Luck wasn’t on our side this time around! We tried our hand at the slot machines, and although the flashing lights and catchy sounds had us hopeful, we didn’t come away with any big wins. In fact, we didn’t win a thing!

The kids teased me about it, but hey, that’s just part of the Vegas experience. We had a good laugh and reminded ourselves that it’s the memories that count.

The food, though—that was a win! From buffets that seemed to go on forever to some incredible steak dinners, we definitely treated ourselves to the best Vegas had to offer. It was one indulgence after another, and honestly, the meals alone made the trip worthwhile.

Our time in Vegas flew by, and before we knew it, we were packing up to head home. Two days wasn’t nearly enough to see everything, but it was the perfect taste of the city’s vibrant life.

We left with tired feet, full stomachs, and a few less dollars in our pockets—but more importantly, we left with some great memories.

Vegas may not have made us rich, but it gave us something even better: a couple of days filled with laughter, exploration, and that unbeatable feeling of stepping out of your everyday life and into the heart of excitement. We’ll be back one day—hopefully with a bit more luck at the slots!
